A router changes a joinery workshop from cutting parts to nesting sheets. The same 18 mm board yields more panels, the panels match, and the carpenter stops being the constraint on how many kitchens you can promise in a month.
CO₂ laser sits beside it rather than replacing it: engraving, inlay, acrylic and thin sheet material where a cutter would chip or burn.

Vacuum holding is what makes nesting practical — small parts stay put when the cutter reaches them. It is the difference between a router and a very expensive template follower.

Wood dust is a fire and health risk before it is a housekeeping problem. Extraction is specified with the machine, not added later.

A router removes material with a cutter and handles thickness. A laser burns a kerf and handles detail. Workshops doing decorative fit-out usually end up with both.
A router cuts both. A CO₂ laser cuts acrylic with a polished edge that a router cannot match, but is limited on thickness in wood. The right answer depends on which of the two is your main product.
